Second large town on the island. Located north of Apollonia which it adjoins,in a bucolic setting on foothills planted with olive trees where a few windmills stand, Artemonas has remained very traditional and peaceful. Formerly a district of the island’s notables, it is home to some beautiful Venetian residences, surrounded by large gardens which are part of the island’s architecture. Arbors of bougainvillea, groves of geraniums and jasmines, flower pots contribute to the explosion of colors in this small town renowned for its confectioneries and bakeries, some of which are over a hundred years old! Don’t miss out on tastingto “pasteli” delicious almond and honey treats… Beautiful churches with sometimes curious shapes line the streets with whitewashed flagstones and add a lot of charm to this charming little village. Artemonas is an essential stopover for those who want to recharge their batteries. Starting point for numerous hikes. Bus service which regularly serves the beaches. Apollonia is a fifteen minute walk away.
