Composed of a group of hamlets connected by a central alley, Apollonia , head-place of the island, located five km from the port, opens like an amphitheater on the slopes of three hills sculpted into terraces planted with olive trees. Labyrinth of stepped alleys, all paved, curious chimney pots with several mouths and decorated with a bird, chapels nestled here and there, traditional shops, flower-filled courtyards, superb neoclassical residences. All these characteristics make ita favorite place for those who want to soak up the “Sifniot” atmosphere. And thus discover its subtle art of living. On Sunday mornings, the streets are lively with women returning from the bakery carrying a “tsikali” terracotta pot containing a delicious chickpea soup that has been cooking all night in a wood-fired oven. It is also the starting point for many hiking trails. The beaches, served regularly by buses, are 15 minutes away.
