It is divided into two parts by an immense natural harbor which is none other than the crater of the volcano invaded by the sea: it is the bay of Adamas , one of the largest natural ports in the Mediterranean. Very different from the other Cyclades, Milos is characterized by the formation of rocks with surprising shapes and colors: from the purest white to black, from yellow to dark red. There are also numerous beaches, more than seventy-five, as well as underwater caves. Milos is generally treeless, although there are fertile areas in the north and northeast. Inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC, the history of Milos is linked to the richness of its subsoil: obsidian, sulfur, pumice, clay, bentonite, perlite… and to its thermal resources used for cures since Antiquity . So we can see some archaeological sites, witnesses of its pastglorious. It was in Milos that the “Venus de Milo” was discovered, exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris . Currently, Milos still lives from its mining resources. Bentonite, perlite and barite quarries are exploited there. Recently becoming fashionable, Milos is starting to open up to tourism, its infrastructure is overall still underdeveloped. It is best to book to avoid sleeping under the stars!
