The island of Folegandros is renowned for having beautiful beaches, either sandy or pebbled, with clear waters and astonishing colors. Most of them are not easy to access, you can reach them either by taking paths, by donkey, or by caique from Karavostassi and Angali . The shade of the tamarisk trees, the color of the water as well as the seabed dotted with the characteristic stone of Folegandros are found on almost all the beaches of the island giving its coasts a very particular beauty.
Karavostassi : Karavostassi
beach, located near the port, is a beach of white and gray pebbles and sand bordered by a row of tamarisk trees. It is well sheltered from the winds and is ideal for families. Shallow waters of great clarity. The few cafes, almost right on the water, and the small fishing boats add to the charm of this friendly beach. At the rear of the port of Karavostassi is the very beautiful sandy beach of Vardia accessible by a staircase which goes down directly to the beach.
Latinaki, Vinzenzo, Pountak i:
To the west of Karavostassi , connected by a road which leads to Livadi , there are three beautiful sandy beaches, Latinaki , Vinzenzo and Pountaki .
Nestled in the hollow of small gulfs, they have a beautiful view of the port of Folegandros and the surrounding islets. For the beaches of Vinzenzo and Pountaki , you will have to take steep paths to access them.
Livadi :
The wide sandy beach of Livadi is ideal for sports fanatics like Beach Volleyball and Bat and Ball. Here the sea is (as well as throughout the island of Folegandros ) clear and crystal clear. In addition, there is an organized campsite with a bar.
Katergo :
Katergo is one of the most beautiful beaches in Folegandros . The road goes to the half-abandoned hamlet of Katergo , from where the view is exceptional. To access the beach, you have to take a path. The beach is very large with small white pebbles and the sea is deep blue. Facing the beach, a large spur is a delight for divers. You can go to Katergo by caique too. (There are regular routes from Karavostassi ). Be careful on the beach, no shade, no restaurant or canteen, so remember to take your provisions before going there.
Angali :
Angali is certainly the most popular beach on the island. The rocks form a large cove (this is the meaning of its name) around a sandy beach. The sea is calm and the sun is warm until late in the afternoon.
A pleasant summer resort with some rentals and numerous tavernas, it is the most easily accessible beach on the island (it is located below the road from Chora to Ano Meria ) and is the first choice of visitors because of the buses go there regularly.
You can go to Angali by caique too. (There are regular routes from Karavostassi ). You can go to the neighboring beaches of Agios Nikolaos (also accessible by a path), Livadaki and Ampeli by caique.
Agios Nikolaos :
The beach of Agios Nikolaos owes its name to the small chapel which dominates it. Small sandy beach with many tamarisk trees. You experience a great feeling of freedom while swimming in its waters which are absolutely translucent.
Livadaki :
Livadaki is a lovely little beach framed by high cliffs and on one side by slabs of schistose rock. Numerous tamarisk trees. The waters there have an absolutely extraordinary turquoise color. You can go to Livadaki by boat from Angali or Karavostassi or by car to Ano Meria and from there take a path.
Ampeli :
The visitor who wants to go to this charming beach must take the path that goes to Aghios Panteleimonas or go by donkey from Ano Meria . Here the late sunset and the view of the Aegean Sea is unique. Tranquility is guaranteed.
Agios Giorgos : Agios Georgios
beachis a sandy beach located in the north of the island, therefore exposed to the northeast winds (meltem). When there is no wind Agios Georgios is considered a divine place for those who go hunting or scuba diving. Access is not difficult because it has recently been possible to get there by car.
