Location: in the Southern Cyclades, between Santorini and Milos .
Identity card: almost oval in shape with a very indented coastline, Folegandros has a population of 558 inhabitants, an area of 30 km², and a coastal perimeter of 40 km. County town: Chora . Main port: Karavostassi .
Characteristics: arid and mountainous, Folegandros is a very small volcanic island, surrounded by numerous spurs which rise above the surface of the waters.Impressive with its rocky cliffs of more than 200 m, swept and sculpted by the winds, its terraced crops bordered by endless stone walls which wind through the entire island, Folegandros has enjoyed growing tourist success ever since . It is mainly frequented by Athenians and Italians who love the art of living. It is also difficult during the summer months to find accommodation without reservation . Its capital, Chora , nestled inlevel with the cliffs, offers magnificent views of the sea. It is one of the most beautiful Cycladic villages and is distinguished by an urban planning very different from the other islands. Everything contributes to giving it a unique atmosphere: its steep slopes, at the top of which hang small houses with their wooden balconies suspended above the great void, its pleasant little squares, which give the village a cozy atmosphere. Chapels and taverns are omnipresent. To make matters worse, cars are prohibited.
Strong points: Folegandros is primarily aimed at those who appreciate wild landscapes, land hikes and almost deserted coves. You have to take the time to explore it on foot to appreciate its wild beauty and smell the scent of thyme, oregano and sage on the trails. You can also explore on foot, on donkey or by caique a small cove nestled in the hollow of a cliff, finally experience Greek relaxation in Chora and meet particularly friendly islanders .
