Completely to the south of the island, 12km from the port, facing the islet of Despotico , Agios Giorgios , very well sheltered from the winds, is one of the most pleasant places on the island .
The landscapes are serene, despite a certain “urbanization” of the environment. Surrounded by hills crisscrossed by a whole network of roads parallel to each other for Most, Agios Giorgos has not lost its character. There are a few hotels and apartments for rent on the seafront, and beautiful villas built by the Athenians. Despite everything, the whole thing remains wild. There is also a Kayak club .
At the water’s edge, two very friendly taverns offer freshly caught fish. A little further on, at the end of a sandy cove, a “postcard” chapel surrounded by a few colorful caiques, completes this very gentle landscape.
Excursions in caique (contact the taverns of Agios Giorgios ) in the bay of Despotico which is well protected from the winds.
There we see a wonderful landscape of “sculpted rocks” and the underwater cave of Epitafio . The waters are an extraordinary emerald green.
The islet of Despotico , surrounded by a beautiful sandy beach, is deserted. The only construction, a chapel of course!
Public services : buses: during the summer months there are 3 times a day: 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m.-6 p.m. Bank, dispensary, pharmacy, post office, shops 12km away in the port of Antiparos .
